Current Projects
Tweed Forum leads on a number of projects and is involved in many more.  See below for details of some of our current projects.  You can also find out more from our various publications.

Cheviot Futures
Cheviot Futures is an initiative committed to providing practical real-world solutions to the challenges our communities face due to the effects of climate change.  The project is a cooperative formed from representatives of agencies and organisations involved in working with the rural communities of north Northumberland. You can find out more from the project website www.cheviotfutures.co.uk or from this leaflet.

Coldingham Priory and Community Garden
This scheme for the conservation and interpretation of Coldingham Priory ruins, and the creation of a community garden within the grounds, has been running since 2008.  You can find out more about this project here.

Craik Sustainable Flood Management Demonstration Project
This project aims to demonstrate the potential of natural remedial techniques to help increase flood storage and slow down run-off in order to alleviate flood events.  You can find out more about this project here.

River Till Wetland Restoration Project
The River Till Wetland Restoration Project is an exciting, and pioneering project aiming to work with farmers and land managers to re-connect the River Till with its natural floodplain.  You can find out more about this project here.

Tweed Aerial Survey
An aerial survey of the Tweed catchment has been undertaken and the imagery is now being used by many organisations within the area.  In addition to this, a complete Phase 1 Habitat assessment of those images has taken place, so that there is now a full habitat inventory for the catchment.  This data will be forthcoming.  More details about the project are availalbe here.

Tweed Invasives Project
This project delivers a comprehensive control programme for Giant Hogweed and Japanese Knotweed in the Tweed catchment.  Methods for control of Himalayan Balsalm are also being trialled.  You can find out more about this project here.

Tweed Wetland Strategy
The Tweed Wetland Strategy, published in 2010,  is aimed at a broad spectrum of individuals and organisations who are actively involved in making decisions which affect wetland systems. This may range from members of government bodies to charitable groups and land managers, all of whom should use this document to facilitate further discussion and specific action towards more coordinated wetland management in the Tweed catchment. You can access the Strategy document here.

UNESCO HELP programme
Tweed Forum is now a member of the UNESCO HELP programme.   HELP recognised the “standard-setting” work of the Forum and particularly the Catchment Management Planning Initiative, which has the aim of protecting, enhancing and restoring the total river environment.  The idea behind the HELP programme (Hydrology for the Environment, Life and Policy) is to improve communication between scientists, stakeholders, managers, law and policy experts and to also make sure that best practice is shared with other catchments around the world.  You can find out more about this here and at the HELP site.  There is also a HELP brochure which explains more about the programme here.
