Solway Tweed River Basin Management Plan published

The final river basin management plan for the Solway Tweed river basin district has been published and is now available online.    The plan sets out how the water environment of the Solway Tweed can be protected and where necessary improved.  As stated in the plan’s introduction this is “not the end of the process but the beginning. Improving the water environment will help safeguard its ability to support current and future generations in a changing climate. It will contribute to sustainable flood management and will protect the Solway Tweed’s rich biodiversity for future generations.”

The Tweed Area Management Plan, a Tweed-specific document supporting the delivery of the River Basin Management Plan, is currently in development and will support the implementation phase of WFD river basin management.

The Tweed Forum, through its members, is a key stakeholder in the delivery of the Tweed Area Advisory Group, which has been set-up to help inform, guide and deliver the Tweed section of the Solway-Tweed River Basin District’s obligations under the new Water Framework Directive (WFD) legislation. For more information on the WFD and how it is being implemented in the Solway-Tweed River Basin District, click here.

The Tweed Forum facilitates the Tweed Area Advisory Group on behalf of SEPA and the Environment Agency as Tweed Forum and its members have already carried out a great deal of the consultation work and built the communication networks required under the new WFD legislation through the development of the Tweed Catchment Management Plan.
